Lovely chub-ly

Finally got my 2019 season off of the ground with 2 lunch time sessions in the last week and I couldn’t be happier! For some reason, between 2017 and mid 2019 I found getting a chub on a lure to be an impossible task but as those who have read my previous post will know I opened the flood gates last year and had several small fush and a couple of better fish at night time. So now 2020s fishing has started  and I fished the same venue for both sessions with very similar tactics and lures. During the first session I landed a small perch on my very first cast. So on my next cast I tried to put the lure exactly where the first had landed to try and get a repeat and there was a light tap followed by a big pull as something half decent started taking a little drag on my spro urban 500 sized reel. I played the fish and it came up into view and I couldnt beleive my luck to find a half decent chub (by my standards) on my first session of the year. I had a bunch more perch over the next 20 minutes before packing up and heading back to work buzzing at how well my first session had went and ticking chub off on my years species list so damn early. Today I tried for the repeat and headed back to the same spot only to find footprints in the mud meaning that someone else had found and probably been fishing my spot (I’ve not seen anyone before anywhere on this river). 3 casts in I found the spot and hooked into another small perch. Then the cast after just as before a chub of similar size, perhaps the same fish? took the lure and some line on the drag again and gave me 2 for 2 on chub lure fishing this year. A few more perch and I was ready to head back to work again. What a hard life! Brilliant!

If you want to find out more about catching UK fish on lures, I strongly recommend you try this great book here which provides info on everything you might want to know about lure fishing in the UK and how to catch a huge variety of species.
