How to (or not to) pick a lure. Fishing madness

The water looks perfect, I can see bait fish every where so I know I could match the hatch, I’ve heard great stories of what people are catching on this week and I also have this lovely new shiny lure I’ve been dying to try out.

But first I better clip on the last lure I caught with right? Or the go to, the one I just can’t stop fishing with?

Yeh ok, so are we are completely and utterly rediculous? Or is it just me?

I have boxes of lures now and some well known catchers which have been proven time and again but something deep inside of me, and a willpower which is much stronger than logic can help but reach for the same lure almost everytime. Oh maybe I’m not even quite right with that either, it is usually the last lure I caught a fish on.

Sometimes I don’t even tie a lure clip on as I know subconsciously that I won’t be trying anything else today…. It’s do or die and this lure I reach for first is the only one that cuts the mustard for me. Arghhhh. No control at all.

I know its wrong, I know I am hindering my chances and I know its completely illogical but on certain days I just have no control.

Sometimes I can go to a fishing spot and I am just in the zone, I’m changing lures constantly to adapt to conditions and the behavior of the fish and catching. Sometimes when I am not catching I try something different and start. The experience gained should be installed in my programming by now and I should be able to get over this weird compulsion that makes me reach for that little pink worm looking thing eve though I know it’s not right for today. But oh well I tie or clip it on and cast it out anyway. Mental!

If you want to find out more about catching UK fish on lures, I strongly recommend you try this great book here which provides info on everything you might want to know about lure fishing in the UK and how to catch a huge variety of species.
